story continued....

I looked nervously around me as the miniature man shuffled over to me. He was only five feet from me and I guessed he noticed my anxiousness. He stopped again and his smile faltered a little bit. When he spoke his voice had the quality of grating glass.
“There’s no need to be nervous young man. I suppose it’s my appearance that makes you uneasy. Most of your kind seems to be frightened of small people.” He renewed his smile and spread his hands out, palms up in a “I come in peace” gesture. “If it’s the size I can change that….hell might as well change the whole kit and caboodle, am I right?” He stood rigidly straight and began to vibrate in place. His vibrations became faster and faster and as they did he became taller and taller. The vibrating stopped and he was exactly my height and his clothes had taken on the same appearance as mine…I also noted that he no longer had bat like ears, or the bug-eyed goggles…in fact…He looked completely normal. I stared in awe and floundered to find my voice. He smiled again and spoke, only this time his voice had a deep rich fatherly tone to it. “I can see by your expression that you can’t believe your eyes…you know the funny thing about the word believe? You can’t spell it without the word LIE.” He extended his hand out for me to shake, and introduced himself properly. “My name is Nema Sikoly, but you may call me Scream. I am the humble greeter of Edes szomorusag, also known as Sorrow. You are here because of a promise that we made. If you care to follow the clear rabbit hole to it’s end please follow me.”
I shook the man’s hand and finally found my words. “My name is Henry Loman. I’m sorry I seem so shocked…I didn’t really know what to expect. I am still curious as to how you vibrated yourself into this form….and as to why you and your colleagues have disheartening names. I’m going to toss some salt over my shoulder and take a chance tonight…let’s see how far this rabbit hole goes.”
If I knew then what I know now…..famous words right? I once heard that hindsight is twenty-twenty, and well, it’s true. I followed that creature, and I call it that because I would later find out that is exactly what they were, into that bloody warehouse.
